We followed the trail to its end, a pit in the ground. There were a few steps down, about 4 meters worth. At the bottom, there were 2 holes leading into the earth. We stuck our heads into the cave on the right. It opened up, and was tall enough to walk in, so we did. We had no light except for the view screen on the digital camera and a couple lighters. The rocks and walls grew increasingly slippery. They were coated with a stinky slime. The going was slow, but about 30 minutes later we started to hear them. The first bat darted across the camera's light so quickly, I wasn't sure if I had seen anything or not. But then again and again they came. We could hear their wings fluttering past by our heads, we could hear the colony squeaking just ahead. I turned off the camera light.
